This qualification reflects the role of individuals establishing or carrying on business as a sole trader or contractor, as well as those supporting the establishment of a new venture as part of a larger organisation.

This course is ideal for small business owners or those looking to kick start their own business. Gain the skills and knowledge to develop core business skills including finances, legal and compliance management, digital marketing, and developing business proposals.

Successful completion of this qualification will help you gain the skills and knowledge needed to launch or operate a small business.

This course is delivered using a combination of online study, workplace visits and group workshops, supplemented by email and phone contact with your assessor for the duration of your study.

You will learn how to:

  • Organise personal work priorities
  • Develop and use a personal budget
  • Organise finances for new business ventures
  • Develop and present business proposals
  • Determine resource requirements for new business ventures
  • Review and maintain organisation's digital presence

Entry Requirements

• You must be the owner or operator of a small business, working as a sole trader or setting up a small business; or working in a business (or as a sole trader) where workplace visits can occur (or can be done virtually).

Admission / Desirable Requirements

  • To be considered for enrolment into this course you will be required to undergo an interview to ensure this is the right course for you. 
  • You must have access to a reliable internet connection to access Byron College online learning system and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and a web browser
  • Be the owner or operator of a small business, or you must be in the process of setting up a small business.

When studying with Byron Community College, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to ensure you have the pre-existing knowledge and skills required to complete your qualification. This course involves reading and undertaking a range of written assessments. Course Duration & Hours

  • Assessments are completed online, and through observation of tasks in your workplace or during workshop activities
  • Rolling enrolments - Tuesday 5/9, Tuesday 3/10, Tuesday 7/11 and Tuesday 5/12, 2023 
  • The nominal duration of this course is 12 months, however as it is largely self-paced students can complete earlier
  • Students would need to commit approximately 5-10 hours per week to study time to be able to complete the course in the nominal duration.

Smart and Skilled NSW Fee Free initiative - $0

To be eligible for Smart and Skilled government subsidised training, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand citizen; and
  • Live or work in New South Wales; and
  • Be aged 15 years or older; and
  • No longer be at school or equivalent; and
  • Provide the College with your USI at the time of enrolment (admin staff can assist you in obtaining a USI

Payment Plan
Course fees are paid in instalments scheduled throughout the duration of the course. Fee schedules for individual courses are outlined on the enrolment paperwork available through the college administration team.

USI

From the 1st of January 2015, any student enrolling in an Accredited Training course will be required to obtain a USI. The USI helps to keep your training records and results together in an online account which is controlled by you. You can logon to the USI website here and follow the simple instructions online to create your USI. This then needs to be provided to the College at the time of enrolment.

Important Information

Once your enrolment is completed you will receive a confirmation email. This email will be your receipt and inform you of the dates, time and venue of your course, it will also let you know of anything you need to take to class with you. Please make sure that you give us a valid email address and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via sms or email.
