Jane McLean
Resume
Jane has run community poetry workshops for the past six years, after initially being infected with the love of poetry during a communications degree in the 1980s. The vector, she says, was Australian poet, Dorothy Porter, who dazzled students with the possibilities of poetry and helped dispel the fear of the unknown instilled by difficult school poems. Since then Jane has continued her poetry journey via courses with various poets, focussing primarily on craft. ‘In poetry, everything is possible… it’s an inspiring way to navigate life,’ Jane says.
She has masters’ degrees in communications and psychotherapy and has taught at Universities, TAFE colleges and in the community. Along with teaching community poetry workshops, Jane has worked as a journalist, nurse, egg-washer, radio maker and psychotherapist.
