Richard Ray is a highly experienced agribusiness executive. His most recent venture is in native bees and he aims to encourage their use as pollinators for Australia’s unique trees and plants. While running a global macadamia business, Richard discovered native bees and their potential to improve biodiversity and pollination. Over the next 5 years he developed his expertise in Tetragonal Carbonaria and how to manage and propagate these amazing bees. He established Bee Native Australia in 2019 to expand native beekeeping in agriculture and to encourage residential hive keeping. Along with his own hives, Richard manages the native bees on several macadamia orchard including a new macadamia orchard that will be the largest in Australia. Bee Native is also developing opportunities to produce propolis and antibacterial honey.
