Gemma Hicks
Gemma is a fibre obsessed maker from the Northern Rivers who creates woven wall hangings and wares using cotton, wool and silks. She has attended workshops with renowned Australian textile artists, Maryanne Moodie and Tammy Kanat.
Her passion for weaving led to a desire to share her skills and she has introduced several groups of eager students to the addictive craft of weaving- which in many cases has led to “weaver fever”. She was also invited to exhibit her work in Melbourne in July 2017 at Brunswick Street Gallery as part of a group textiles show ‘Origins’.
Gemma finds inspiration for her weavings from her surroundings – the landscape, architecture, colours from a sunset and even lines from poetry. Weaving plays an integral role in her life as both a creative outlet and as a way to bring mindfulness into her busy life and she looks forward to sharing this ancient craft with others.
