Photography For Beginners

Have a digital camera but don’t know how to use it? Explore the basics of photography and gain a better understanding of your camera’s manual settings in this two-day workshop. Topics covered will include explanations and examples of ISO, shutter speed and aperture and how these settings work together. Other topics discussed will include depth of field, selective focusing and manual exposure.

Assignments will be given to be completed during the week, which will aid participants in understanding the choices they have when creating images. Participants will then share their work with the group so it can be discussed in a supportive and encouraging environment.

We will also be inspired by images of others, and discuss how they have been achieved focusing on composition, subject matter and technical choices made by the photographer.

What to bring

• Your camera with a fully charged battery (either a DSLR or analog)

• Camera manual – most manuals can be downloaded online

• Memory card

• Tripod if you have one

• Laptop (optional)

• Notebook and pencil

• Lunch/refreshments

• Wear comfortable shoes for walking in as we will head out to a location take photos

Important information
