Abstraction and Figurative Painting

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

Expressive painting class for beginners as well as advanced students, delving into figure painting in an abstract background. We'll focus on sketching, composition and colour mixing, taking a journey together to create a large scale nude figure painting with acrylic on canvas, using the layering technique of concealing and revealing in painting. Learn to paint with expressive brush marks and freedom!

In this course we will learn sketching the figure and proportions, working from black & white images, with pencil and charcoal.

Your best sketch will be your inspiration for the main painting project using acrylic paint on a large canvas. After activating the canvas with free brush marks, you will sketch the figure and start to create layers with paint and wide brushes.

You'll discover the use of stencils and cut out figures to conceal the canvas and reveal the under layers. Achieving beautiful effects with a technique used by many abstract painters.
