Zen Calligraphy

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

This workshop introduces the history and contemporary uses of ink and brush in Japan. The Zen focus of “calligraphy as meditation” uses brushwork, breathwork, and mindfulness to peacefully control and direct energy into creation of form. In this course you will learn how to select and organise calligraphy tools, create fundamental brushstrokes and write kanji characters based on the five elements, nature, and celestial forms.

Through focus and action, discover a path to harmony and stillness.

Zen Calligraphy Workshop, as taught by Alice Miyagawa.
Until 2013, Alice lived in Japan for twelve years, immersed in arts and spiritual practices on a daily basis. During those years, her main arts focus was on textile production and textile art. Her spiritual practices incorporate Shinto, Buddhist and Hindu influences.
