The early 20th century technique of including every day material into the field of painting has gone onto influence every field of art practice since.

During this 8 week course we will look at the work of various artists known for their use of collage and gain inspiration to construct new images for ourselves. No prior experience is necessary, collage is easy and relies only on a willingness to play with possibilities.
Students will be supported to develop the ideas that come from this practice and build a small body of work. A range of printed material will be available but please collect and bring to class any materials you would particularly like to work with, (e.g. maps, dressmaking pattern paper, catalogues and magazines, tissue paper, serviettes, gold leaf etc).

What you will learn:

  • Gain knowledge of historic and contemporary artists known for collage
  • Use a range of techniques to construct collage images
  • Develop and refine own ideas to create a suite of collage images
