Visual Art - The Art of Juxtaposition 2

The Art of Juxtaposition 2 will extend the 2D graphic collage explorations of The Art of Juxtaposition 1 and provide an opportunity to consider collage as the basis for making paintings and sculptures.

During this course we will look at the work of various artists known for their use of Collage and gain inspiration to construct new images for ourselves. It is not necessary to do The Art of Juxtaposition 1 and 2 courses in chronological order. Collage is easy and relies only on a willingness to play with possibilities. Students will be individually supported to develop ideas that come from this practice and build a body of work.

As Madonna once said, 'we live in a material world!’. Finding new ways to engage with the materiality of stuff can be a means to make sense of the world for ourselves. Collage is an invitation to make new and surprising connections.
A range of printed material will be available but please bring anything you would particularly like to work with (i.e. paper / printed matter, children’s books, music scores, old dress patterns, maps, magazines, photographic books, comics, wallpapers, serviettes, tickets).

What you will learn:

• Gain knowledge of artists known for collage
• Construct collage images
• Develop collage ideas into a series
• Build a small body of collage work

This training is subsidised by the NSW government.

Entry Requirements

• There are no formal entry requirements for this skill set.
• To enhance the quality of learning, students can only enrol in a single skill set at any given time and can explore each skill set just once.
• Learners must not have successfully completed more than one unit of competency attached to this course listed under Units of Study Required for this Skill Set

Course Duration & Hours

• Classes are delivered face to face
• 8 days of classroom and onsite learning 9.30am - 3.30pm per week
• 8 weeks in the classroom
• Delivery location: Mullumbimby campus

Course Fees

Course Fees are fully subsidised for eligible students:

• ACE Program Fee: $0* - most NSW residents are eligible for this subsidised fee!
• Full Fee: $500

We kindly remind students that a $100 cancellation fee will apply only to those who do not attend any sessions of the Skill Sets course, and we encourage timely communication if any unforeseen circumstances prevent attendance.

To be eligible for government subsidised training through the ACE Program, you must:

• Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand; and
• Live or work in New South Wales; and
• Be aged 15 years or older;
• No longer be at school or equivalent; and
• Provide the College with your USI at the time of enrolment (admin staff can assist you in obtaining a USI); and
• Have not successfully completed the units listed under '**Assessments are made against units of competency' for this course.** Refer to the top of this page.

Additional Costs

• You will need to purchase some art materials (e.g. a journal to collage into or an A3 pad of drawing paper, Exacto knife for fine cutting, paper scissors, glue (i.e. GluStick - Bostik or Uhu, Montmatre Gel Medium Matt, Fluid Matt Medium, Modge Podge). If you don't currently have art supplies, or are uncertain what you may want to work with, the tutor will introduce you to various options at the first class. Students can then choose to buy the supplies they particularly want to use.

USI

From the 1st of January 2015, any student enrolling in an Accredited Training course will be required to obtain a USI. The USI helps to keep your training records and results together in an online account which is controlled by you. You can logon to the "USI website":http://usi.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx and follow the simple instructions online to create your USI. This then needs to be provided to the College at the time of enrolment.

Important Information

Once your enrolment is completed you will receive a confirmation email. This email will be your receipt and inform you of the dates, time and venue of your course, it will also let you know of anything you need to take to class with you.
