Explore a comprehensive range of Organic Gardening techniques including composting, crop rotation, companion planting and natural pest and disease management. Create a ‘no-dig garden’ from local, low cost materials and learn about seasonal planting in the humid Subtropics. The first part of this day will be in the classroom, followed by a sessions at The Farm in the afternoon for some hands on learning.

Topics covered include:

Seasonal Vegetable Gardening:

  • The Four Elements of Life – Earth, Water, Air and Fire
  • Seasonal Planting – and reading natures signals of seasons changing
  • Crop Rotation
  • Companion Planting
  • Subtropical Perennial Vegetables

Establishing and Maintaining Vegetable Gardens:

  • Composting
  • Create a ‘No-Dig’ Garden
  • Garden Design incl. Edge Effect/Vertical Spaces/Integrating Water etc
  • Maintenance of Vegetable Gardens

Permaculture Design Course

This course module is one of 14 which make up the internationally renowned Permaculture Design Course (PDC).

You are welcome to attend just this module to learn the skills outlined above (without doing the other modules), but if you wish to gain the Permaculture Design Certificate you must complete all modules within a 12 mth timeframe and satisfactorily complete an Individual Permaculture Design Project.

What to wear

There will be hands on learning components in outdoor locations so please wear comfortable outdoor work clothes as needed, this includes

  • Sturdy covered shoes or boots
  • Appropriate long pants
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Gardening gloves
  • Wet weather gear if raining
