This playful one day course will transform your outlook on oil pastel and add new techniques to your drawing skills. Layers of glazing and glowing translucent oil washes on textured backgrounds create rich, exciting effects. We will also combine oil pastels, ink and surface textures to give depth and interest to your work. You should be able to take home up to 3 beautiful completed artworks from this one day workshop.

What to bring

  • 4x A4 sheets thick cartridge paper
  • Oil pastels in bright colours (not water soluble pastels)
  • Blue Quink ink (available newsagents, Dolphin office supplies)
  • Small cutting knife ($2 at Mullum Instyle Living)
  • Artist’s turps, not mineral turps.
  • Pencil, rubber, ruler
  • 1 old brush approx 1/4"
  • Tissues and cottonbuds
  • Coloured marker pens
  • Any mixed media you wish to bring
  • Whiteout pen (optional)
  • Two prepared A4 sheets of cartridge paper thickly and roughly coated with white/beige matt acrylic house paint or undercoat – eg small cheap tin Dulux prepcoat acrylic sealer undercoat (Satin or shiny or enamel paint will not work). To prepare with undercoat use a series of irregular diagonal brushstrokes using thick blobby paint strokes, allow the brush strokes to show through. This gives an interesting undercoat upon which pastel can be drawn.

N.B: For those who have done S’Graffito & wish to include it – bring Indian ink & 1 old brush.

  • Bring your own lunch
